Symposium Submission Guidelines

Shining a Spotlight on

TRU Law Students

The TRU Law Review’s Symposium is intended to showcase exemplary legal literature written by the alumni and current students of Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law. It is a dedicated platform for discourse on legal and policy issues.

Submissions

Symposium pieces will be featured on our website, alongside other outstanding student submissions. Please note that student work will not be included in our regular or print publications.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis year-round.

Please e-mail a digital copy of your work in Microsoft Word format along with a brief biography to TRULawReview@tru.ca. In your email, please indicate your work is intended for our Symposium.

Eligibility

Eligibility for the Symposium is restricted to alumni and current students of the Juris Doctor (JD) program at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Authors may submit a paper published elsewhere if the copyright and distribution policy of the first publisher allows the piece to be featured on our website.

Papers must be in English. They may be of any length and may employ any citation style.

To be featured, submissions must:

  • be endorsed by the instructor of the course for which the work was written;
  • have received an award or recognition in a legal or policy essay competition; or
  • have been published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Further, all submissions must:

  • be written in English;
  • be single spaced;
  • use Times New Roman 12-point font; and
  • be submitted in ‘.docx’ format.

Editing Process

Papers will be assessed for quality of research and writing.

Submissions may undergo a formal review process by student editors but will not be peer-reviewed by experts in the pertinent subject area. Student editors may prepare constructive notes for authors outlining suggestions for revision. Authors may revise and resubmit their paper.

Once the student editors determine that no further revisions are required, the Editor-in-Chief (Administrative) will conduct a final review before approving the article for publication on our website.
